Instant gratification

It suddenly became a lot more likely that I’ll be getting an AppleTV in the near future. Online HD movie rentals are precisely what I want. Now if only they’d up their definition of HD to 1080p.

We’re #2!

The contest UMass was made for. If they used a photo of the LGRT it’d probably get first place.

Peeling Mangoes

This is how I do it. Really much easier and much less wasteful than the cross-hatch method. Just slice the mango into 3 pieces and press the non-pit ones along the edge of a glass.

Animal Perfect!

I’m so glad I’m finally getting around to learning Ruby. I was just waiting for an excuse to read this.

Apartment Hunting

I would totally live here.

Qapla’

250 GB Series 3 TiVo + 750 GB eSATA external drive = 1244 hours of space. That’s about 52 days of video. All of Star Trek TNG is 176 hours. I could go on safari for 4 years without missing a single episode of the Colbert Report.

Now I just have to hope that the external drive doesn’t die, taking 3/4 of my recordings with it.

TiVo + eSata

D.A.

Oh great, now I can’t look at the Internet for the next two weeks. This is going to make work difficult.

I should make a bookmarklet that looks for Harry Potter-related words (e.g. Hogwarts, Horcrux, Diagon, Deathly Hallow, etc.) and if found, redirect to here. Or better yet, an app that uses the Accessibility framework to black out any window that contains related text — that way I could keep it from coming up in NetNewsWire as well. Kind of like Zaphod’s sunglasses that keep him from seeing anything scary.

Or I could be a jerk and release one to the public with text-to-speech + max volume occurring after a 5 second wait. And then have it mail a link to that page to all contacts in your address book.

Nose goblins

This is fantastic.

Birthday

I share my birthday with Julius Caesar, Henry David Thoreau, George Washington Carver, and several other people. A little disheartening how the earlier births became great artists, scientists, or leaders, while the later births have been mostly soccer players and actors. I’ll see if I can out do Caesar.
